After much deliberation (and i’m on internet time right now, where 1 day=a “forever”) I’ve decided to start my social media hiatus. Effective right after this post.
I’m not going as far as that Amish project guy - I’ve still got the my phone open to texts from most people, and I have my own personal set of exceptions which I shall not share. (They’re personal.) I don’t want people knowing what they are so they can try to get around them.
I also hope that the exceptions don’t create an overwhelming temptation to “just check really quickly.”
Some of the things I’ll mention:
- Professional relationships: if we’re doing business of any kind (this includes Dork Trek crew) you can still contact me through regular channels as long as it’s not the interblaghs (ie, FB/twitter/tumblr et al.)
- Texts and email: I still prefer a phone call IF POSSIBLE. as a matter of principle I’m going to considerably delay response on just about every text/email I get. If it’s urgent, call me. If whatever we have to discuss will take more than 5 exchanges to work out, save it for a phone call.
- Don’t be afraid to drop me a line to say hello and see what’s up :) just because I’m off social media doesn’t mean I don’t want to talk to anyone.
I hope to come back with a fresh perspective on friendships, life, the universe, and everything. Having said that, I’m gonna aim for 42 days to start. Good round number!
